Three Facing Charges, Including Man Who Barricaded Himself

Three area men have been arrested and charged with various offenses, including a Galt man who barricaded himself in a house on Friday.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old Philip A. Bess of Galt, is being held in the Grundy County Detention Center on $35,000 cash-only bond. He is charged with first degree burglary and resisting arrest, both felonies. Bess is accused of knowingly entering unlawfully a building at 213 E. Sherman St., owned by Jackqueline Montgomery for the purpose of committing assault. He then barricaded himself in the residence when Grundy County Deputy Clint Griswold attempted to arrest him.
A Hale man, 47-year-old Kevin L. Baker, is charged with second degree burglary and aggravated stalking, both felonies. He is accused of knowingly entering and remaining unlawfully in a structure at 1607 Nichols St., owned or possessed by Novalea Baker, for the purposed of committing assault. He is also accused of purposely acting in a manner in which his course of conduct would be harassing to her, including violating a full order of protection, by being at that residence, assaulting a subject at the residence and being in violating of the terms of his probation or parole. Baker is being held in the Grundy County Detention Center on $15,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
A third man, 25-year-old Daniel L. Harding of Trenton remains in the Grundy County Detention Center after being arrested for a stealing offense which was his third or subsequent offense. The charge, which is a felony, stems from him allegedly stealing three bottles of intoxicating alcohol owned by TNT. He had earlier pleaded guilty to or been found guilty of two other stealing-related offenses. Harding’s bond has been set at $10,000 cash or corporate surety.
All three defendants are scheduled to appear in court on April 26.
