The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is advising area residents to be on the lookout for companies who may be posing as the Internal Revenue Service in an effort to gain access to personal financial information.

A resident reported she had received an email, purportedly from the IRS, informing her that she might be eligible for a tax refund. In addition, a resident received an email from a bank concerning a tax refund for which the person had not asked the bank to process. Residents are reminded to guard their personal financial information, as well as their social security number and other identifying information.
