Man Arrested In Iowa

A Galt man has been extradited from Iowa following his arrest on charges of passing bad checks and violating his probation.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, 41-year-old Russell J. Burkett was arrested in Muscatine,IA and signed a waiver of extradition. He is currently being held in the Grundy County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $18,000 cash or corporate surety. Burkett is charged with two counts of passing bad checks after allegedly writing a $50 check to Hy-Vee on June 2, 2005 and a $44.10 check to Pamida on Aug. 15, 2005, knowing they would not be paid. Burkett is also accused of violating the terms of his probation on original charges of second degree domestic assault and resisting arrest.
Burkett is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 10 on the check charge and Oct. 12 on the probation violation.
