Trenton Man Faces Assault Charge After Resisting Arrest

A Trenton man is facing several charges after assaulting a Grundy County deputy.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Cody J. Burchett, is charged with third degree assault: special victim, a class D felony, as well as resisting arrest and tampering with property damage, both class A misdemeanors, and obstructing government operations, a class B misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident Wednesday in which he resisted Deputy Tyler Anderson’s attempt to arrest him by striking him in the face with a closed fist and grabbing his cell phone and throwing it as Deputy Anderson was attempting to call for assistance. Burchett is being held on bonds totaling $20,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in court April 10.
