Ambulance Involved In Ninth Street Mishap

Jun 19, 2020 | Accidents, Law Enforcement

A Grundy County Ambulance was involved in an accident Tuesday while responding to a mishap on East Ninth Street.
According to Trenton Police Lt. Larry Smith’s accident report, the mishap occurred when the ambulance, driven by Elizabeth Webb of Jamesport, was responding to an accident on East Ninth Street near Normal Street. The emergency lights and sirens were activated, she said, and she thought the mishap was in the Farmer’s State Bank parking lot located on the north side of the road, so she was in the turn lane to make a left turn into the lot. However, when she neared the scene, she learned the accident was on the south side of the roadway. She moved from the turn lane into the south lane and struck the front passenger side of an eastbound vehicle driven by Kathy Tabbert of Spickard. Mrs. Tabbert said she had yielded to the emergency vehicle, which she said did have emergency lights, but not the siren, activated at the time. However, since the ambulance had pulled into the turn lane, she thought it was going to turn left and started to pass it to continue on Ninth Street. The ambulance then pulled into her lane, striking her vehicle and causing moderate damage to it. The ambulance sustained only minor damage.
Ms. Tabbert complained of a sore wrist but did not seek treatment at the scene.
No tickets were listed on the accident report.
