Two Milan residents are being held in the Grundy County Detention Center after being arrested for possessing and passing counterfeit money last week in Grundy County.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Georgeanna K. Courtney, 48, and Michael D. Courtney, 51, are both charged with three class D felony counts of forgery: passing counterfeit money and are accused of passing $50 bills at ShopKo twice and at Hardee’s. In addition, Ms. Courtney is charged with forgery: possession of counterfeit money, accused of possessing four counterfeit $50 bills, and a class A misdemeanor of stealing, accused of appropriating a Serta air mattress from ShopKo. Michael Courtney is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, accused of possessing morphine sulphite and oxycodone hydrochloride, both controlled substances.
Both defendants are being held on $20,000 cash-only bond and are scheduled to appear in court May 14.
A Chillicothe woman is being held in the Grundy County Detention Center after being arrested on a 2018 charge of passing bad checks.
According to the sheriff’s office, 24-year-old Bailey Souders is charged with the class E felony of passing bad checks: no account. She is accused of writing a check for $680 to the Trenton Money Store on Jan. 14, 2018 on a non-existent account. She is being held on $1,100 cash-only bond and is also scheduled to appear in court May 14.
