Arson Suspected In Spickard Fire

Mar 21, 2016 | Sheriff's Office

Arson is suspected in an early Saturday morning fire in Spickard.
According to Grundy County Sheriff Rodney Herring, an investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the fire at a home that was being remodeled. The owner, Terry Duncan, lives in a nearby house and woke up around 2:45 a.m. He saw the orange glow coming from the house and attempted to extinguish it. Firefighters with Spickard Fire and Rescue responded, pulling off the siding and removing insulation. The fire did not penetrate the interior of the structure. Sheriff Herring said it was apparent that an accelerant had been used to start the fire and had been splashed on the metal siding near an electrical box. In addition, a melted plastic gas can was recovered at the scene. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 359-2828.
