Woman Charged With Hindering Prosecution

A Trenton woman has been charged with hindering prosecution in connection with the abduction of a nine-year-old girl in Trenton last week.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Kathryne A. Ashworth, 30, has been charged with the class D felony of hindering prosecution, accused of obstructing the arrest of David W. Manus, Jr., by means of deceiving Trenton Police Det. Jerry Smith and Grundy County Sheriff Rodney Herring while they were attempting to locate and apprehend Manus, who was the subject of a manhunt after allegedly abducting the child on Oct. 27. On Oct. 28 and 29 she allegedly made verbal statements that she had no knowledge of his whereabouts. In addition, she is accused of transporting him out of Grundy County. Ms. Ashworth is being held on $10,000 cash-only bond and is expected to appear in court Nov. 10. Manus is being held without bond on charges of enticement of a child, sexual misconduct and child kidnapping.
Also arrested was Brandy M. Elliott, 34, Trenton, who is charged with three class A misdemeanor counts of passing bad checks. She is accused of writing a check to Trenton Main Stop on June 20 for $43.90, to BP on July 21 for $35.42 and to Shell on July 26 for $54.75, knowing they would not be paid. She is being held on $1,000 cash-only bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10.
A third person, David A. Wilson, 47, also of Trenton, was served a warrant for his arrest at the Grundy County Detention Center, where he was already being held on unrelated charges. He is being charged with first degree tampering with a motor vehicle, a class C felony, and is accused of operating a 2006 Dodge Stratus owned by Connie Nickell, without her permission. Bond on this charge is $15,000 cash-only and he is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10.
