The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated an accident early Saturday that claimed the life of a Princeton woman.
According to the accident report, the mishap occurred at 1:40 a.m. when a sport utility vehicle driven by 28-year-old Valerie N. Robinson of Princeton was westbound on Highway 136, five miles east of Princeton, and a car driven by 44-year-old Kimberly K. Hertzog, also of Princeton, was eastbound on Highway 136. Ms. Robinson’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Ms. Hertzog’s vehicle head-on in the eastbound lane. Following the impact, Ms. Robinson’s vehicle slid off the north side of the road and overturned, coming to rest on it wheels facing east. Ms. Hertzog’s vehicle slid off the south side of the road, coming to rest on its wheels facing north. Ms. Hertzog was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Michael Greenlee.
Ms. Robinson sustained serious injuries and was taken by Lifenet to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Two passengers in Ms. Hertzog’s vehicle, 22-year-old Colton Hertzog and 49-year-old Michael Hertzog, both of Princeton, sustained moderate injuries and were taken by Grundy County EMS and Mercer County EMS to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. J.A. Pithan and Sgt. G. D. Ward, with assistance from Trooper B.N. Raney, Trooper J.C. Gilliland and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
