The Trenton Police Department investigated two recent accidents in which a utility pole and a street light were struck.
One mishap occurred near the intersection of 17th and Norton streets, when a truck driven by Mason Croy of 1621 E. 17th St., was eastbound on 17th Street. Croy said he lost control of the vehicle and attempted to put it into four-wheel drive to avoid striking a utility pole owned by KCP&L. He was unsuccessful and the truck collided with the pole, causing extensive damage to the front of the vehicle, which had to be towed from the scene. There was only minor damage to the pole. No injuries were reported and no tickets were issued. The accident was investigated by Sgt. Larry Smith.
Another accident involved a decorative street light at the intersection of Ninth and Main streets. A tractor-trailer rig driven by Charles Kerr of Yukon, OK, was carrying an oversize load and although a lead vehicle attempted to clear the intersection, when the semi came through, it had to make adjustments, which resulted in the load striking the pole and snapping it off at the base. The vehicle did not sustain any damage. No tickets were issued in the mishap, which was investigated by Officer Keith Edmonston.
