TPD Issues Scam Alert

Sep 23, 2013 | City Police, Law Enforcement

Trenton Police Chief Tommy Wright has advised that the Trenton Police Department has been contacted by a local business concerning what is believed to be a telephone scam.
The business advised that in the last month they have received two separate telephone calls in which the caller indicated that a note was left on their (the caller’s) vehicle, stating that one of the businesses vehicles had struck the caller’s car.  The caller, who reportedly had an Hispanic accent, demanded information concerning the business’ insurance information. The caller hung up when pressed for more information concerning the alleged note.
Although the TPD does not have any further information, it is believed that this is not a legitimate telephone call and that it is merely a ploy to gain sensitive information for the purpose of committing some type of financial or insurance fraud.  Anyone who receives any telephone calls similar to this is asked to refer the caller to the local police department to file a report and conduct the investigation into the accident. Information should never be given over the telephone to someone who has called you unsolicited. Anyone having questions is encouraged to contact the Trenton Police Department by calling 660-359-5557 or by emailing Chief Wright at [email protected].
