A Trenton youth was taken to the hospital after she walked into the side of a moving vehicle Friday morning.
Trenton Youth Struck By Vehicle
According to Trenton Police Det. Jerry Smith’s report, the accident occurred when the child, 12-year-old Brooke Houk, was attempting to cross Ninth Street at Custer Street. She was walking northbound and as she crossed the street, she walked into the passenger side of van, driven by Nichole Hyer of 505 N.W. Church. The mirror of the vehicle struck the child, knocking her onto the street and causing her to strike the side of her head on the asphalt. She was taken by Grundy County Ambu-lance to Wright Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Miss Houk had a hood on, which might have obscured her vision, and did not look to the west to see if there was any traffic.
No tickets were issued in the mishap.
Another accident was investigated by Lt. Rex Ross later Friday morning at the intersection of Mable and 24th streets. According to his report, the accident occurred when a car driven by Rikki A. Siebenborn of 206 Orchard St. was northbound on Mable Street, approaching 24th Street, while a van driven by Enola J. Hughes of 2401 Mable St., was making a left turn from 24th Street onto Mable Street. Ms. Hughes pulled into the path of Ms. Siebenborn’s car, with the left front of Ms. Siebenborn’s car striking the right side of the van. Ms. Hughs said she did not see the car approaching and Ms. Siebenborn said she could not stop in time to avoid a collision due to slick road conditions and heavy snow.
No injuries were reported and no tickets were issued.
