The gates that lead to Country Club Place were extensively damaged when they were struck by a vehicle early this morning.

According to Trenton Police Officer Justin Ishmael’s report, the accident occurred when Frank L. Roberts of Lathrop attempted to swerve his vehicle to miss a deer and ended up hitting the gate. He then left the scene and later made contact with Ishmael and the two went back to the scene. He initially told Officer Ishmael that he had struck a culvert, but after the two went back to the scene, he said he had struck the gate. Officer Ishmael said there were deer tracks in the snow.
Roberts’ vehicle sustained moderate damage to the front end, with both airbags deploying during the mishap.
One pillar of the gate had to be taken down by the Trenton Street Department as it was creating a hazard. The street department also cleared debris from the roadway.
