A flagman at a road construction site sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning three miles north of Trenton.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Daniel W. Garrett of Eldon, IA was serving as the flagman at the site, located on Highway 65 near Route A, when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Bob J. Porter of Mercer. Porter was southbound on Highway 65 when he failed to stop for the stop sign being held by Garrett.
Garrett sustained serious injuries and was taken by Grundy County Ambulance to Wright Memorial Hospital. He was then taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Jason Daly, with assistance from Sgt. S.P. Skoglund.
