According to Harrison County Sheriff George Martz, his office received a call just before 3:30 p.m. Monday of a deceased female just off the roadway on Highway “T” located about three miles north of Blythedale. Law enforcement officials found the body and Harrison County Coroner Jeremy Eivins pronounced the woman dead at the scene. While the body has been identified, that information is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
Sheriff Martz said the body was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office, where a forensic autopsy will be performed. At this time, Martz said, it appears that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, however, foul play will not be ruled out until final results of the autopsy have been obtained.
