According to Trenton Police Officer Jeb Walker’s report, the accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. when Tony Bowers of 314 W. 11th St., was preparing to cross Ninth Street and, although he looked both ways, he failed to look far enough to the left and started across the street, not noticing a sport utility vehicle, which was approaching. The driver of the SUV, Joshua T. Dowell of 1214 Shanklin Ave., said he saw Bowers look both ways before crossing the street and attempted to stop before striking the man.
Bowers refused medical treatment by the Grundy County Ambulance crew, but was taken to Wright Memorial Hospital by private vehicle, where he was treated for a sprained ankle.
Dowell’s vehicle sustained minor damage to the front. No tickets were issued in the mishap.
