Nigerian high jumper and Olympic hopeful Bayo Audio is scheduled to dazzle audiences both young and old at Trenton’s 150th slam dunk contest on Wednesday, July 4 as part of the city’s sesquicentennial birthday bash at Eastside Park in Trenton.
Slam Dunk Contest At Sesquicentennial
Bleacher seating will be available. The warm-up will begin at 5 p.m. with the competition slated for a 5:30 p.m. start time. Organizer Ed Hart of Laredo is contacting numerous local favorites to participate. Dr. Nick McHargue is providing the sound system for the event. Tom Johnson, sports director for KTTN Radio, will serve as announcer for event. Persons wishing to enter the contest may call Hart at 660-286-2266.
Judges will be looking for most exciting contestant, most visual appeal, and the crowd reaction to select the trophy winner.
Also scheduled as part of the July 4 afternoon activities are a variety show at the Ketcham Community Center at 1 p.m. with Kasey and Krista Bailey, Mike and Linda Arnold and Dana Peters; historic tours with Russell Joiner, departing from the Grundy County Museum at 2 p.m.; awards for Brothers of the Brush at the C.F. Russell Stadium at 3 p.m.; buggy rides; children’s contests; and a concert by Julie Hefley. Fireworks at dusk will cap off the 150th events of 2007.
