Trenton Police Officer Cyle Fewins has completed DARE Officer Training and will serve as the DARE Officer for Trenton R-9 Schools next year.
Cyle Fewins Completes DARE Training
Officer Fewins attended the two-week training in Jefferson City on Jan. 22-Feb. 2. The training is conducted by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association and teaches officers how to present the curriculum to students. DARE is designed to teach students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco and how to resist the pressure to make destructive choices.
Officer Fewins said he volunteered to serve as the DARE Officer because he enjoys helping students and believes that the curriculum for the program is a good one. He definitely feels he was well-trained to teach it.
“This was one of the most difficult trainings I’ve been to,” he said.
Currently, Grundy County Sheriff Rodney Herring is teaching the DARE course to fifth grade students at Trenton Middle School, as well as to students in the outlying county schools. Fewins will be observing Herring this year and will take over the TMS program next winter.
Officer Fewins has been a member of the Trenton Police Department since June 2005.
