According to Officer Randy Burks’ report, the accident occurred when a car driven by Justin Bonnett of 706 E. Eighth St., making a left turn from East Ninth Street onto Normal Street. Bonnett said the rear of his car began to slide on the ice and snow-covered roadway and struck the side of a parked van owned by Jerry and Glenda Allnutt of 1058 NE Highway BB, which was parked on the east side of Normal Street.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported and no tickets were issued.
The driver of a tractor-trailer rig escaped injury when his vehicle slid into a ditch on First Street.
Officers Burks’ report indicated that Adam D. Cox of Council Bluffs, IA, had gotten lost and was trying to find a place to turn around on First Street. He was traveling on an uphill grade and lost traction. The vehicle began to slide on the slick roadway and had to back up. As he was backing, the drive axles went into the ditch and Cox attempted to get out of the ditch by going back and forth, which caused the rig to jackknife. A tow truck was called to pull the vehicle from the ditch.
Officer Cyle Fewins investigated an accident near the corner of Second Street and Sunnyside in which a truck driven by Michael Scheib was traveling on Second Street and began to slide toward the south side of the roadway. Scheib, who was driving a truck owned by Trenton Municipal Utilities, could not correct the turn due to the snow and ice on the roadway and the vehicle went off the south side of Sunnyside Drive into a ditch. The truck collided with a mailbox and post owned by Steve Keuhn of 202 Sunnyside Dr., breaking it off at the ground. The vehicle was removed from the ditch and sustained only minimal damage. No tickets were issued.
