According to a report filed by Officer Keith Edmonston, the accident occurred when Nicholas Bonnett of 3723 Lake Trenton Dr., made a left turn from Fisherman Road onto East 28th Street, traveling west on East 28th Street. As an eastbound vehicle approached, Bonnett began to press on his brakes and started to slide. He braked harder and lost control of the vehicle as it slid on ice. Bonnett crossed the roadway and entered the yard of Steve Vandevender at 3604 E. 28th Street. The vehicle continued sliding and struck a brick and mortar square light post, breaking it from its support and shattering the lower half. The vehicle, which then came to rest, sustained moderate damage, but could be driven from the scene. No injuries were reported in the accident and no tickets were issued.
Vandevender’s light pole was destroyed and his yard sustained ruts from the vehicle tires.
Two tickets were issued to a driver following an accident investigated by Det. Jerry Smith at the intersection of 13th Street and Shanklin Avenue.
According to Det. Smith’s report, the accident occurred when a car driven by Daniel Betz of 158 E. Fourth St., was northbound on Shanklin Avenue, preparing to turn onto East 13th Street. As Betz turned, his vehicle began to slide on the snow and ice-covered roadway and slid into the driver’s side of a truck driven by Larry Woldridge of 1800 Crestview Terr., which was stopped at the stop sign on East 13th Street. Both vehicles sustained minor damage in the mishap, which did not result in any injuries.
Betz, 26, was ticketed for driving while his license was revoked and not maintaining financial responsibility for a vehicle.
