The 2013-14 North Central Missouri College women’s basketball team and Steve Maxey, a longtime Pirates athletics supporter, will be inducted into the NCMC Athletic Hall of Fame.
The ceremonies will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 when the basketball teams host St. Louis Community College. Maxey will be recognized during halftime of the women’s game and the 2013-14 women’s basketball team will be acknowledged during the halftime of the men’s game.
Sophomore Day ceremonies will also be held for winter sports athletes between games. There will be a reception for the Hall of Fame recipients in the Sugg Room of the Ketcham Community Center that day at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the women’s tipoff. All NCMC fans are encouraged to attend to congratulate these deserving inductees.
The 2013-14 women’s basketball team won the NJCAA Region XVI tournament by defeating St. Louis Community College 77-64. The Ketcham Community Center hosted NCMC’s District P victory, which saw the Lady Pirates dominate Arkansas State University Mid-South 89-62 to advance to the NJCAA DII National Tournament. This was the third women’s basketball national tournament appearance in school history.
Two Lady Pirates, Samone Redditt and Kayla Oetterer, received All-Region XVI first team honors. Additionally, Redditt was named a second team All-American for her outstanding season for the Lady Pirates.
Steve Maxey is the longtime director of the North Central Missouri College Foundation-sponsored High School Holiday Hoops. Over the past 15 years, this event has grown from an eight-team tournament to an eight-day affair, which has brought thousands of high school student athletes to the campus of NCMC. Additionally, funds raised have helped to make significant improvements to the Ketcham Community Center and provide a more positive experience for the college’s students, athletes and fans. Maxey’s extraordinary initiative, time, energy and personal commitment to NCMC, the NCMC Foundation and the Holiday Hoops event are to be commended.
