The NCMC men, playing Saturday, saw a 12-point lead evaporate and took their first loss of the year, falling 86-78 to John Wood Community College.
NCMC held the lead at halftime, 39-38, and was up by 12 points with eight minutes left in the contest. A scoring drought along with a defenisve slowdown let John Wood back into the contest and eventually gave the home team the win.
Ryan Ward had 18 points to pace NCMC. Jake Salisbury added 16 and Jalen Gant collected 13 points.
The Pirates evened their record at 1-1 and will be at home on Tuesday, hosting the Missouri Valley JV in a 7:30 p.m. game at the KCC.
