If you thought Trenton’s 42-12 victory over Maysville on Friday night was a rout, you should have seen Monday night’s junior varsity showdown between the two schools.
Trenton scored five times in the second quarter alone on the way to a 54-0 blowout of the visiting Maysville junior varsity squad at C.F. Russell Stadium.
After getting in the end zone once in the first quarter on a 13-yard run by Chase Marsh, Trenton opened the flood gates in the second period, scoring five more times. Jose Velazquez had a six-yard touchdown run, Mark Trump had scoring runs of three and 25 yards, Isaac Harris ran a fumble back 30 yards for a touchdown and Sam Schilling had a nine-yard touchdown run. Trenton converted on all but one of its two-point conversion tries, taking a 46-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, Jaren Whitney gave Trenton one more touchdown, running the ball in from 51 yards out. Whitney ran the two in as well, giving Trenton the 54-0 lead that would hold through a running-clock fourth quarter and be the game’s final score.
With the win, Trenton moved to 4-3 on the season in junior varsity contests.
Trenton’s JV will travel to Gallatin next week to close out the season on Monday. Action in Gallatin kicks off at 6 p.m.
