Three community participation events are planned as part of the 2016 Missouri Day Festival in October.
Entries are now being accepted for the yard and window decorating contests, with the deadline to enter being Tuesday, Oct. 11. Cash prizes are being awarded in both contests.
There will be first- and second-place prizes of $50 and $25, respectively in the yard decorating contest in both the business and residential categories within the Trenton city limits. Citizens Bank and Trust is sponsoring that activity. For more information, persons can contact the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office at 660-359-4324.
Window decorating will have first-, second- and third-place prizes of $75, $50 and $25, respectively. Persons are encouraged to do their decorating in a business window in the Trenton community. Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri is sponsoring the event. For more information, persons can contact the chamber or Jackie Soptic at 359-1434.
Entries for both contests can be made at the chamber office.
After an absence of a few years, the Missouri Day Festival will be holding its scarecrow contest, with the entries being used to help decorate the festival area throughout the weekend. Scarecrows can be brought to the Rock Barn on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and entries are to have the builder’s name and telephone number attached. Prizes are being awarded in the categories of business/organization as well as individual/families (all ages). Prizes are $50 for first place, $25 for second and $15 for third.
Winners of all three contests will be recognized and will receive their award at the Missouri Day Festival Opening Ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at the First Baptist Church.
