Funeral Funds Stolen

Feb 11, 2014 | Headline News

Trenton Police Chief Tommy Wright has announced the arrest of a Trenton resident for stealing funds raised for a funeral.
According to Chief Wright, the TPD wrapped up a three-month long investigation into a local fund-raising effort that was held to defray the funeral expenses of the late Justin McKnight, a 17-year-old Trenton youth who died in August. At that time, 35-year-old Elizabeth Glass started a web-based fund-raising effort to offset the funeral costs, however, in early December the TPD was advised that none of the money had been delivered to the funeral home to help pay the expenses. During its investigation, officers were able to determine that the $1,600 that had been raised had been spent by Ms. Glass.
Charges of receiving stolen property (a class C felony) have been issued against Ms. Glass by Grundy County Prosecuting Attorney Cristine Stallings. She turned herself in to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and posted a $10,000 surety bond. She is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 25.
Anyone who donated money to the fund raising effort is encouraged to contact Chief Wright at [email protected].
