Tim Whitaker Is Rotary Speaker

Oct 11, 2013 | Clubs & Organizations

Trenton businessman and former mayor Tim Whitaker shared his story about recovering from an embolic stroke during Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Mary Easter was the program chairman.
Mrs. Easter works with Whitaker in his therapy as he works to recover from the stroke, which occurred on Christmas Day 2012. He had just undergone shoulder surgery, without complications, the week before. After the stroke, he was taken to Kansas City where, while undergoing surgery, he had a second stroke. After the second stroke, Whitaker had a portion of his skull removed to allow for brain swelling and after a few months, the skull piece was put back in place. While he is now home, Whitaker spent several months in rehabilitation and now walks with the assistance of a cane as well as a device that keeps the heel of his foot from dragging. He still has his sense of humor and shared several anecdotes with the group. He encouraged members to live their lives to the fullest “because you never know what the future brings.”
During the business meeting, members continued to volunteer to help with the Missouri Day Parade, which is sponsored by the club and will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19. Flags are to be placed on poles down Ninth Street and Oklahoma Avenue on Friday morning, Oct. 18, and will be up throughout the Missouri Day Festival weekend. There are over 200 entries in the parade, including 30 bands. The parade kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
Next week’s program chairman is Chris Hoffman.
