The Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 will conduct its annual laying of the wreath at the grave of the post’s namesake in Maple Grove Cemetery at 10 a.m. The post will then take part in combined Grundy County Museum/City of Trenton activities at Five Points at 10:30 a.m. Those activities will include dedication of the new flag pole. Boy Scout troops 97 and 99 will be presenting the colors, the VFW will have a gun salute and Fourth Ward Councilman Jim Bush will be the speaker. As part of the dedication ceremonies, those assisting with the project will be recognized.
The Grundy County Museum will host a veteran’s program at 1:30 p.m. in the Hoover Community Theater, located on the third floor of the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library. Three veterans of the Vietnam War will speak, including former Trenton Fire Chief Tony Ralston, Jay Moser, who was involved in air search and sea rescue; and Sam Smith, who served as a helicopter repairman.
The Grundy County Museum will also be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Railroads of Grundy County will be the featured display.
