The 2007 Missouri Day Festival officially kicked off activities Thursday night with opening ceremonies at the First Baptist Church.

Rosetta Marsh served as mistress of ceremonies and Phil Schlarb, chairman of the 2007 Sesquicentennial, gave the welcome. He recognized the grand marshals for the Missouri Day Parade, which will be members of the Grundy County History Book Committee and gave a recap of sesquicentennial activities,. A PowerPoint presentation of photos taking during the event was also shown during the program.
Musical entertainment was provided by Robert Wimer and Anita Ewing. Boy Scout Troops 97 and 99 presented the colors and Mayor Cathie Smith played the prelude and led the pledge to the U.S. flag.
Recognition was given to the winners of the coloring contest as well as the yard decorating and window display contests by their chairmen, Jeanie Whitney, Debbie Anderson and Marlisa Klingin-smith. Citizens Bank & Trust and US Bank sponsored the contests.
Winners in the coloring contest, their school and parents, were:

The window decorating winners included:
Business – 1. Lockridge, Constant and Conrad; 2. Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri; 3. TMU offices.
Individual – 1. Grundy County Go Getters 4-H Club (extension office on east side of courthouse); 2. Plaza Apartments; 3. Grundy County Senior Center (done by Marilyn Blakesley).
Missouri Day Festival activities continue tonight with a dance at the Grundy County Senior Center at 7 o’clock.
Saturday’s activities get under way at 5:30 a.m. with a breakfast at the Masonic Hall and the Missouri Day Parade at 8:30 a.m. Other events include the Missouri Day Band Festival at the Trenton High School and C.F. Russell Stadium; vendors, crafters and a flea market in the Rock Barn/fairgrounds area from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; a petting zoo; children’s games at 1 p.m. at the old ballfield on Normal Street; and tours of Trenton from the Grundy County museum, beginning at 2 p.m. The museum will also be open throughout the day.
Sunday will include the Great Tennis Ball Race in the downtown area, with heat races at 1 p.m. and the finals at 2 p.m. (this is a time change); a car show in the C.F. Russell Stadium parking lot beginning at noon (registration is 8 a.m. to noon); and a baby show at the Grundy County Senior Center at 1 p.m. (registration begins at 12:30 p.m.). Vendors, crafters and the flea market will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Grundy County Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. and tours of Trenton will be given from there as well.
