The health department is taking this opportunity to test its public health emergency plan for dispensing medication or vaccine during a pandemic or other public health emergency.
This flu shot will be the same seasonal one that county residents receive each fall, but will be given in a drive-through format. It is not a pandemic flu shot. There is no vaccine for a pandemic flu at this time.
The clinic will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Oct. 9. The route will begin on Princeton Road at 22nd Street, proceeding south to the stop at 17th Street and Harris Avenue. Participants will turn left on 17th Street and go to the First Christian Church entrance, where they will turn left. There will be workers stationed all along the route to direct cars.
The only access to the flu shot line on Princeton Road will be via Oklahoma Avenue at the four-way stop. The northbound lane of Princeton Road will remain open as will both lanes of 17th Street.
Paperwork will be distributed at the beginning of the route and checked prior to traffic being sent through the Trenton Emergency Services Complex, where the shots will be given. Participants will remain in their cars to receive the vaccine.
The clinic is open to all Grundy County residents. The health department asks that participants carpool, if possible, and to not come early as the exercise will not begin until 9 a.m. Individuals are asked to bring their Medicare or Medicaid card for billing purposes and to wear something with short sleeves so nursing staff can get to their arm easily for the flu shot.
Maps will be distributed countywide in the Green Hills Weekly shopper on Oct. 3. They will also be available at the health department. Residents are asked to follow the route shown on the map.
The health department hopes that this clinic will assist them in testing and adjusting their plan. The department is asking the public to help by participating in the drive-through clinic, as it will enable the health department to be better prepared to help the community in the event of a public health emergency.
