Former Trenton High School and North Central Missouri College softball player Taron Brewer has been named a graduate assistant coach for the Southwest Baptist University Bearcat softball team in Bolivar, according to information provided by SBU.

Brewer played catcher for the Bulldogs, where she lettered three years. In 2003, Brewer was named to the all-district team as well as being the team MVP and a team captain.
Brewer was a two-year starter for NCMC, where she played third base. In 2004, Brewer led the Lady Pirates to a regional title.
Brewer was named to the all-regional team in 2005, a year that saw Brewer hit .338 with 24 RBI’s.
At NCMC Brewer also excelled in the classroom. Brewer was a two-year member of the National Dean’s List as well as the NCMC Dean’s List. In 2005, Brewer was named to the President’s List as well. Brewer was a two-year Academic All-American during her stint at NCMC.
After her NCMC career, Brewer took her game to the Division I level when she went on to play with the University of Missouri-Kansas City softball program. As a Lady Roo, Brewer saw her career continue to rise.
Brewer’s first year at UMKC saw her compile an impressive .980 fielding percentage with a team-high 315 putouts. Brewer was also named to the spring Mid-Con Academic All-Conference team that year.
In 2007, Brewer was named a co-captain for UMKC. Brewer had another great season in the field with a .978 fielding percentage. Brewer was also named to the fall and spring Mid-Con Academic All-Conference team. Brewer was also honored on the Mid-Con Conference Comissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.
In Brewer’s career at UMKC, she played in 99-of-103 games. As a senior she started 49 games for the Lady Roos.
Southwest Baptist Head Coach Christy Capner is excited about the addition of Brewer to her coaching staff.
“I am very excited to have Taron as part of our coaching staff here at SBU,” Capner said. “She is a Missouri native who brings the Division I experience as a catcher and corner infielder. Taron is determined to remain in coaching as a career, so I expect that she will make a big impact on the success of our program.”
