Officials of the Maryville R-2 School District and North Central Missouri College have entered into an agreement, extending the educational offerings in the Allied Health program in the Maryville area.

Students interested in pursuing a career in nursing will now have the ability to complete both the Level I and Level II nursing programs at the outreach site, located on the Northwest Technical School campus, beginning in the fall of 2006 through a partnership between the local school district and the regional community college.

NCMC President Dr. Neil Nuttall and Maryville Superintendent Vickie Miller completed the agreement with an official signatory celebration on Friday afternoon in Maryville. Also in attendance for the signing were Northwest Technical School Director Michael Jordan and Sue Nichols, NCMC site coordinator for the nursing program in Maryville.

NCMC currently administers the Level II nursing program on the Maryville campus and will now assume sponsorship of the Level I program. The Northwest Technical School has administered the programs on their Maryville campus for 18 years and Mrs. Miller said they are very excited about the new partnership and continuation of a quality nursing program. The ultimate goal is to enable students to receive an associate degree in nursing at the Maryville site. NCMC presently offers the Level II program to 25 students in Maryville and with the addition of the Level I program will now be able to serve an additional 26 students in the beginning program.

Dr. Nuttall echoed the excitement of the agreement.

“We look forward to continuing the extraordinary program established at Northwest Technical and our partnership with the Maryville schools,” he said. “Our goal is to enhance this program and develop additional opportunities for students in northwest Missouri.”

As the result of the agreement, NCMC has now increased its curriculum in the area of allied health by offering similar programs at the Maryville site as well as the campus in Trenton.

The allied health program is one of many certificate and degree programs offered by NCMC and as reported earlier, recent performances on state examinations resulted in a 100 percent pass rate for nursing students at NCMC.
