The future of any organization lies in its ability to attract young members.
The Trenton Acting Guild is fortunate to have six new young performers and three young veterans in its fall production of “I Remember Mama.” The play tells the joys and trials of the Hansen family in 1910 San Francisco.
Two girls share the role of Dagmar, the youngest of the Hansen Children. Michaela Foster of Laredo is a third grader at Meadville and enjoys basketball and softball. Samantha Jones of Trenton is a fourth grader at Grundy R-5 and has participated in dance as well as th North Central Missouri College Kids College theater class.
Two girls share the role of Christina Hansen, the middle Hansen daughter. Sarah Pauley of Trenton is a freshman at Trenton High School, where she is active in band, student council and FFA. She has appeared in one other TAG production, “One Foot in Heaven.” Shelbi Stimpson of Galt is a sixth grade student. She plays in the band as well as participates in basketball and softball.
Sam Woodson of Trenton plays Arne, a boy who learns an unusual way to handle pain after he has an operation on his leg. He is a fourth grader at Rissler Elementary School and is a Webelo in Boy Scouts. He enjoys playing video games and building with Legos.
Chris Johnson of Trenton will have two supporting roles. A sixth grader at Trenton Middle School, he plays the piano and is active in band and Royal Rangers. He has also participated in the Kids College theater class.
Another new performer is Vanessa Pauley. A sixth grader at Trenton Middle School, she enjoys swimming, climbing trees, playing the flute and taking piano lessons.
Two other TAG veterans in the cast are Courtney Leeper of Trenton and Andrew Ponder Williams of Princeton.
Miss Leeper will play a friend of the Hansen daughters. She appeared in the TAG production of “Hello Dolly” in 2004. She also attended the Kids College theater class. A seventh grader at Trenton Middle School. she enjoys 4-H and GAs at the Shelburne Baptist Church.
Williams plays the Hansen’s only son, Nels. Williams appeared in “Hello Dolly” as well as in “The Sound of Music” and “One Foot in Heaven.” A freshman at North Mercer High school. He is active in student council, Future Business Leaders, FCCLA and academic bowl.
These young people make up more than one-third of the show’s cast, boding well for the future of local community theater in Trenton.
“I Remember Mama” will be presented as part of the Grundy County Friends of the Arts program at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19 as well as 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 in the Hoover Theater of the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library. Tickets are available at the Ketcham Community Center. They are free to Friends of the Arts season ticketholders and NCMC students. The cost is $8 for all others.
