The Harrison County R-4 Board of Education discussed several financial matters and made some administrative changes that will result in savings in the budget for next year during a meeting Thursday night in Gilman City.
Superintendent David Cross said the board voted to make his position half-time for the 2003-2004 school year. It was also decided to have counselor Connie Ward serve as an elementary principal on part-time contract next year while also serving as counselor part-time. Cross said it is estimated the changes would result in a net gain of around $30,000.
Cross also told board members about projected cuts in state aid for the current school year. The latest estimates from the state indicate the R-4 School District could lose just under $15,000, which Cross said could be covered by revenues in the current budget.
The board approved the 2003-2004 school calendar, which has classes starting Aug. 20 and ending May 19. Tentative dates for summer school were set from may 28 to June 10. Also approved was an early-out for a technology in-service, with classes to be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. on March 21.
Cross announced that the board was in the process of reviewing applicants for the agriculture instructor?s position, which will become vacant at the end of the current school year.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for March 20.
