Committees were formed and priorities established by individuals who have been meeting the past few months to work on economic development efforts in Grundy County.

During a meeting on Tuesday night, group members reviewed a list of 14 priorities that had been established at previous meetings. From that list, the numbers were narrowed to four and committees were established based on those four areas – business retention, business attraction, tourism and public relations. The 15-plus individuals who were present at the meeting then chose a committee on which to work and will be asking other persons in the community to assist in these areas. The committees will meet in the next few weeks, then report back at a general meeting tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 2.

It was noted that the 14 priorities initially reviewed were interchangeable in some areas and that they could be included as part of the work of the four committees. The group, in reviewing the original list, came up with a timeline that members felt the goals could be attained. This was done so that once the final committees were formed and activities started, members would have a timeframe under which to work.

The 14 original priorities included development of an economic development park, construction of a spec building, raising money to fund a spec building, establishing a bi-monthly meeting of an economic development roundtable, public relations by getting Grundy County residents to think about the importance of economic development, professional presentations for both businesses and the community, establishment of a business retention program, attraction of new business, tourism, working to attain Missouri Community Betterment and ?100 Best Small Towns in America? status, establishment of a private/public committee to work on economic development, establishment of a ?Go Get ?Em? Committee to work in selling new businesses on choosing Trenton, alumni involvement and local business development.

Members of the four committees include:

Business Retention – Kerry Sampson, Larry Crawford and Sandi Williams.

Business Attraction – Scott Forman, Chris Hoffman, Troy Smith and Rick Childers.

Public Relations – Rosetta Marsh, Kenny Roberts and Diane Raynes.

Tourism – Gary Hurst, Vickie Shoots, Steve Holt, Joyce Eads and Nick McHargue.

Persons interested in economic development and who would like to work with any of these areas can contact any committee member.
