The Trenton High School Lady Bulldogs tennis team hosted St. Joseph Benton on Thursday night at the THS Tennis court. The Lady Bulldogs won their fourth match of the season thanks to strong singles play.

The Trenton High School Lady Bulldogs tennis team hosted St. Joseph Benton on Thursday night at the THS Tennis court. The Lady Bulldogs won their fourth match of the season thanks to strong singles play.

THS was able to win four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. The junior varsity also won 8-1.

Number two player Charla Fries and number four player Melissa Woodard led the way for Trenton with 10-7 victories. Fries defeated Lauren Stehle and Woodard defeated Erica Smith.

Number three player Sara McCarter defeated Remi Miljavac, 10-6 while number six player Megan Bosley won, 11-9, over Holly Hornbuckle. Kara Kelsall and Bosley teamed up in the number three doubles match to defeat Smith and Hornbuckle, 10-4.

McCarter and Woodard won the number two doubles match over Miljavac and Mikaylah Schurman, 10-8.

“We were pretty evenly matched and the girls gave a good effort,” Head Coach Mike Bosley said. “We were a little more consistent and won five close matches. That should help our confidence.”

The top four THS junior varsity singles players won their matches on Thursday. Number one Sarah Bishop defeated Natalie Crawford, 8-6. Number four player Adria Meek defeated Tiffany Reynolds, 8-5 and number six player Chasity Crawford also won, 8-5, over Tiffany Griffith.

Kellie Fries won her number three singles match with Rosie Stehle, 8-2 while number two player Ashlea Cross dominated Lindsey Hoerath, 8-1.

The Lady Bulldogs also swept the doubles competition. Bishop-Cross won, 8-3, over Crawford and Hoerath. Fries-Meek defeated Stehle-Reynolds, 8-1 and Jesse-West-Marci Harrington defeated Gains-Griffith, 8-4.

The Lady Bulldogs will be at the Marshall Tournament on Saturday. They open against Kirksville at 9 a.m.
