Girls Drop Third-Place Game To Pattonsburg
After suffering losses at the hands of Stanberry and Albany at the Albany Tournament, the Princeton High School boys basketball team picked up a win to leave the event on a high note.
Princeton used a stellar defensive effort on Saturday to top South Harrison 45-31 in the consolation game.
As good as the Tigers’ defense was in the first quarter, limiting South Harrison to five points, the offense was an equally large issue. Princeton scored just three points in the game’s first eight minutes. The Tigers would begin to find the basket, however, scoring 11 points in both the second and third quarters, but it was the fourth quarter where the Tigers really took off. Princeton closed the game on a timely 20-9 run to clinch the consolation trophy.
Free throws allowed Princeton to pull away down the stretch. The Tigers connected on 14-of-21 shots from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
Leading the Tigers was Talan Holt, who had 17 points in the win. Mason Morris added 13 for Princeton and Jadan Finney and Kelby Thomas each had five.
With the win, Princeton evened its record at 2-2 overall.
The Princeton girls, who opened the tournament with a win before stumbling against Platte Valley — ranked first in the state in the Class 1 MBCA coaches poll — in the semifinals, couldn’t find a way to leave Albany on a high note as the Tigers fell to Pattonsburg by eight points in Saturday’s third-place game.
Addy Henke led Princeton with 22 points while Grace Kelly scored 10 in the loss.
With the loss, Princeton’s girls dropped to 2-2 as well.
Both Princeton teams will travel to Eagleville tonight (Tuesday) to take on North Harrison. Princeton will be on the road again on Friday, traveling to Mercer for the annual in-county rivalry games. Both sets of games are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
