The Grundy County R-5 baseball team grabbed a 12-3 win over Novinger Monday night at home in Galt. The Panthers used a 5-run third and a 7-run fifth to pick up the victory.
Corbin Axtell had two hits, one a double, two runs and two RBIs in the win. Mason Rayl had a hit, a run and three RBIs and Layden Fordyce collected two hits and two RBIs. Grundy also got two RBIs, a hit and a run from Hunter Miller and a double and two runs scored from Brett Otto.
With the win, Grundy moved to 5-2 overall on the season. The Panthers will be back on the diamond on Monday, traveling to La Plata.
Grundy’s softball team did not play against Novinger as the team is battling quarantine issues that will keep the Panthers out of Saturday’s HDC Conference Tournament in Bethany.
