After rolling over Metropolitan Community College by 52 points last week, the North Central Missouri College women’s basketball team handed out a similar beating to the only other team in Region 16.
The Pirate women rolled over St. Louis Community College 72-39 on Saturday at the Ketcham Community Center, leaving little drama in the 2021 region race.
For one quarter it looked as if St. Louis might have some staying power with the Pirates leading just 12-11. Things opened up for NCMC in the second quarter, though, and the Pirates grabbed control with a 17-8 run, then put the game away with a 20-11 third quarter run. In the fourth, North Central outscored their guests 23-9 for good measure.
It all added up to a dominating 33-point victory, one that painted a clear picture of the NJCAA Division II’s Region 16.
Angel Wiggins was the only starter in double figures for the Pirates, scoring 13 points, but a trio of players came off the bench to post double-digit totals. Maci Moore had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Jordan Hibner had a 12-point day as well. Jasmine Taylor finished the game with 10 points. Kennedie Kieffer had seven points and nine rebounds and Kortlyn Rounkles also had seven points while adding three assists.
With the win, North Central moved to 11-3 overall while pressing to 2-0 in Region 16 games.
The Pirates return to the court on Saturday, traveling to face Southeast Community College on Saturday. Tip time is set for 2 p.m. with a men’s game between the two schools to follow at 5 o’clock.
