Grundy Splits With Tri-County

The Grundy County and Tri-County high school basketball teams wrapped up regular-season play on Thursday, facing off in an HDC Conference doubleheader in Galt. The night was a split as Tri-County took the girls game 59-39 and Grundy won the boys contest 68-32.
Tri-County was paced by Carly Turner who had 15 points and six rebounds. Destiny Gutshall added 12 points and five assists, Anissa Williams had 11 points and five assists and Lexxus Blakely-Wright scored eight points. For Grundy, Lillian Fordyce had 16 points and seven rebounds and Lainie Lewis finished with nine points.
Both girls squads were in Class 1, District 14 action on Saturday. Tri-County defeated East Harrison 57-29 in Jamesport to move to 12-7 and advance to the district semifinals on Tuesday. Turner had 18 points and 12 rebounds to again lead the Mustangs. Gutshall finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals and Lexi Wyant finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Grundy, meanwhile, saw its season end with a 48-23 loss to North Harrison in Eagleville. The loss gave the Panthers a final season standing of 3-17.
In the boys game, Grundy was paced by Corbin Axtell’s 25 points and Caden Gann added 17.
Grundy’s boys finished the regular season at 18-5 while Tri-County ran a record of 6-11. Both teams played district games on Monday night.
