Richard Eugene McLallen, an 88-year-old resident of Chillicothe passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.
Richard will be buried at Richardson Cemetery at Laredo, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Slater-Neal Funeral Home of Trenton.
Richard was born Nov. 9, 1932 in Grundy County to Carl Edwin McLallen and Lorea Elaine Dowell McLallen, the eldest of two children.
After graduating from Trenton High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He came back to Trenton to marry his sweetheart, Mary Alice Mullins on Sept. 17, 1954. They have two daughters, Gayle Flynn of Chillicothe, who has 4 children, and Lisa Guinther and her husband, John of Louisville, CO, who have three children. There are five great-grandchildren. Caring and providing for his family was his highest priority.
Richard was active in various churches and Christian organizations throughout the years, including Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, home Bible studies and ministering at the Navajo Indian Reservation along with multiple hospitals and nursing homes. He was also involved in Lion’s Club and veteran’s organizations.
Flying was Richard’s passion. When he first saw an airplane fly over his family’s farm as a young child he was mesmerized. He took flying lessons in 1954 and was flying or thinking about it ever since. Richard owned over 50 airplanes throughout his career of flying. He enjoyed refurbishing, restoring, flying, buying and selling airplanes. He worked for Trans World Airlines for 34 years as a mechanic and electrician. His passion provided a multitude of travel, adventure and excitement.
Richard was extremely kind, giving and understanding and was a man of strong character and leadership.
We will all miss him dearly, but it gives us comfort to know that he is reunited with his Lord and Savior and beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Alice.
Richard is survived by his sister, Evelyn McLallen Pickett of Montgomery, TX; his daughters, Gayle Flynn and Lisa Guinther and husband, John; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that cards, letters and memories be sent to: Gayle Flynn, 804 N. Washington St., Chillicothe, MO 64601 or Lisa Guinther, 2263 Cliffrose Ln., Louisville, CO 80027
