Jesse D. Richmond, III, a 63-year-old Spickard resident, went to be with the Lord at 1:57 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at his home.
His body was cremated under the direction of Slater-Neal Funeral Home of Trenton. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Jesse was born on Dec. 9, 1957 to Jesse Edward and Brenda (Ross) Richmond, Jr. in Fort Wayne, IN.
On Sept. 25, 1976 he was united in marriage to Melody Berfield in Manito, IL.
Jesse graduated in 1977 from Forman High School in Manito, IL. After graduating he went to work as a lineman and was a member of INTER Electrical Union Local 53. In the early 1980s he joined the Army for a short period. After moving his family to the Kansas City area, he joined the Excelsior Springs Fire Department as a fireman and First Responder. He studied at Mizzou for his EMT License. Later he moved his family to Spickard, where he worked for the Grundy County Road and Bridge Department until he retired in 2016.
Jesse was the former mayor of the City of Spickard for many years. He was also a former member of Spickard Special Road District and a current member of the Spickard R-2 School District Board of Directors. He was an EMT/Firefighter for Spickard Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He was also a member, deacon and bus driver at Coon Creek Baptist Church in Trenton. After his wife’s passing in October 2016, Jesse lived with his grandson, Austin in Spickard, where he later married Judi Hein on May 26, 2018.
Jesse was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved being a fireman and enjoyed helping people. Jesse was also a father and grandfather figure to many. He loved to cook, visit new places to eat and giving people a hard time joking around. Jesse was an organ donor. Most importantly, Jesse loved his family and his dog, Moose.
His survivors include his wife, Judi of the home; a daughter, Rhiannon (Mike) Hieronymus of Excelsior Springs; a son, Jesse D. Richmond, IV; his parents, Jesse and Brenda Richmond, Jr., of Yuma, AZ; a step-daughter, Libby (Matt) Hall of Trenton; a step-son Jeromy (Jessica Summers) Romesburg of Lathrop; three sisters, Jonine (Mike) Jaycox of Spickard, Jackie (Ross) Johnson of Ozark and Julie (Mike Hollenbeck) Burgard of Table Grove, IL; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Nathaniel, Madison, Shelby, Alyssa, Jayden, Lily and Brooklynn; five nieces; three nephews; and many friends.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and his oldest grandson, Austin Richmond.
The family is requesting donations to be made to Judi Richmond to help with final expenses.
