Bonnie Lee Davis, a 90-year-old resident of The Villages, FL, died on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 in Florida.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 at Newtown Cemetery in Newtown.
Mrs. Davis was born on Feb. 5, 1930 in Kirksville to Cecil and Doris Gummow Wise. The family moved to Galt and then Harris, where she lived until attending college at the University of Missouri Columbia. She was married on Aug. 5, 1951 to James Merrill Davis, who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2018. They lived for five years in Kansas City, where she taught physical education. She became head of the physical education department of the Kansas City School District. They moved to the farm near Lucerne in 1956.
She was an adult leader in 4-H and spent many hours at the Newtown ball field. She taught seventh through 12th grade science at Newtown-Harris until she learned the game of golf. She and her husband farmed together and in 1967 won the American Royal 4-State Farm Family of the Year Award. They began traveling south to play golf in the winter time and in 1989 they built a home in The Villages, FL.
Mrs. Davis played golf, enjoyed bridge and was a volunteer librarian at the Lady Lake Library. She always had a smile and enjoyed friends stopping by.
She is survived by three children, Cecile Ann of The Villages, FL, James Walter of Green City and Steven Lee of Lucerne; one grandson, James Nicholas of Kirksville; a sister-in-law, Joslyn Wise; and several nieces and nephews.
