Over the past week, S.M. Rissler Elementary has seen a steady increase of students placed on quarantine or isolation due to COVID-19. If this happens to your child during the course of the year, your child’s teacher will reach out to you to determine how to continue remote learning from home. This could include a combination of paper packets and online materials through Google Classroom. Please make sure you’re connected to your child’s teacher through SeeSaw to receive important notifications throughout any quarantine or isolation period for your child.
Your child’s teacher will also request information on what kind of device your child has to use at home, as well as internet service. If your child doesn’t have a device or internet service, the district has a limited number of resources to assist in at-home learning. Any devices loaned are the responsibility of the parent and will be collected and inspected upon the child’s return. Any device that is damaged or not returned will be charged to the parent as any other school property lost or damaged.
If you have any questions, please contact Tiffany Otto at [email protected].

COVID SYMPTOMS TO MONITOR AT HOME
Please monitor your child(ren) for any of the following COVID symptoms listed below
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
The district uses guidance from the document provided below to determine when your child(ren) need to go home and when they can come back to school.
Some scenarios to be aware of:
• If a child or staff member is found to be positive for COVID-19, the district will work with the Grundy County Health Department to determine any close contacts at school. This would be anyone that has been exposed to the positive case based on classroom layouts and schedules. Students and staff determined to be close contacts will be sent home and notified by the Health Department of their quarantine.
• If a child shows symptoms listed above, all household members of the symptomatic child will be sent home. The school nurse or an administrator will notify the family of when they can return.
