Jo Ann Council, an 84-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Saint Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Lindley Funeral Home at Chillicothe. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
General visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Council was born on Feb. 14, 1936 in Mercer County, the daughter of John and Mabel Collier Ramsey. She was a 1953 graduate of Mercer High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
She was married on June 1, 1963 in Denver, CO to Michael Council. She served as the head nurse at Fort Logan Psychiatric Hospital and Denver General Hospital, moving to Chillicothe in 1975, where she served as the director of nursing at Wright Memorial Hospital and taught at North Central Missouri College in Trenton. She was director of nursing at Morningside Center when it opened in Chillicothe. She also operated a registered Angus cow-calf operation on the family farm.
Survivors include her husband, Michael of the home; one son, Matthew Council and his wife, Stephanie of Ozark; and one grandson, Nolan Council of Ozark.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeremy; her parents; and one brother, Kenneth Ramsey.
