Charles David “Dee” Johnson, 71, died on Sunday, June 14, 2020.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Christian Church in Newtown. Burial will follow at the Christian Union Cemetery, near Gilman City.
A visitation will be held at noon on Thursday at the church. Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home at Milan is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson was born on April 15, 1949 at Gilman City, the son of Lawrence and Evelyn Long Johnson. He graduated from Gilman City High School in 1967 and served in the Army from 1967-69. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was married on Sept. 25, 1971 to Jane Reynolds Johnson. He was a farmer and welder and was employed by Premium Standard Farms/Smithfield Hog Production for 17 years before his retirement in 2011.
He enjoyed helping on the farm, hunting, fishing, searching for arrowheads, gardening and baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; five children, Paul (Tanya) Johnson of Gilman City, Julie (Eric) Veach of Milan, Matthew (Keri) Johnson of Bethany, April (fiance Nick Broemer) Johnson of Mexico, MO and Rebecca Johnson of Newtown; eight grandchildren, Joshua Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Kendra Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Jaden Veach, Breana Veach, Ruger Johnson and Jace Estrada; one great-grandchild, Levi Johnson; four sisters, Faye (Jerry) Mathews of St. Joseph, Leona (Doug) Hollcroft of Nixa, Rose Ann Wooderson of Warsaw and Bonnie Thomas of Trenton; and two brothers, George (Lillie) Johnson of Trenton and Lloyd (Josephine) Johnson of Gilman City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean McClaflin, and James Johnson; a sister, Ruby Newton; a grandchild, Bobby Johnson, three brothers-in-law, Clinton Newton, John Wooderson and John Thomas; four nephews, Robert Newton, Randy Newton, Brian Meek and Brice Meek; and a great-niece, Elizabeth Newton.
