Mary Alene Michaelis

Mary Alene Michaelis, an 81-year-old Mercer resident, died at 12:25 a.m., Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Pearl’s II Eden for Elders in Princeton.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Girdner Cemetery near Mercer. Slater-Neal Funeral Home of Trenton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Michaelis was born on Aug. 14, 1938, in Mercer, the daughter of Charles Jackson and Ruby Zephry Ragan Cox. She attended Mercer School. She was married on July 3, 1955 at Princeton to Lawrence Arno “Larry” Michaelis, who preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1999. They moved in 1996 to Trenton, where she worked for Trenton Foods. After her husband’s death, she moved back to Mercer.
Mrs. Michaelis enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s school and athletic events. She also played the piano in church and taught Sunday School. The most important thing for her was that everyone in her family would come to know the Lord. She was a member of the Mercer Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Marie (Garry) Cooley of Mercer; a daughter-in-law, Diana Michaelis; a step-son, Jesse Michaelis; a step-daughter, Jacky (Blake) Smith of Denver, CO; a twin brother, Larry Cox of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Traci Robinson, Jeremy (Angie) Michaelis, Josh (Heather) Michaelis, Danielle (Kurt) Sumrall, Sari (Kyle) Larson and Shelly (Mark) Hillesheim; and great-grandchildren, Sierra Michaelis, Trey (Jade Petersen) Michaelis, Chantel (fiancé Kyle Andrews) Robinson, Memphis Stark; Jase Michaelis, Kreedence Michaelis, Jaeden Hillesheim and Jostyn Hillesheim.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Jerry Lawrence Michaelis; a daughter, Julie Ann Michaelis; two brothers, Joe Cox and Jack Cox; and a grandson-in-law, Dave Robinson.
Memorial donations are suggested to Mercer Assembly of God Church and may be left with or mailed to Slater-Neal Funeral Home in Trenton.
