Shirley J. Bacon, an 87-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
Private family graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 202 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens at Chillicothe. There is no scheduled visitation.
General visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2020 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Bacon was born on Feb. 20, 1933 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Sterling and Mildred Kent Vanlandingham. She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. She was married on Jan. 25, 1964 in Chillicothe to Irwin Fredrick Bacon, who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2018.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Bacon Sales in Chillicothe for many years. She was the oldest member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church at Chillicothe.
Survivors include her step-son, Tom Bacon and his wife, Ronda of Jamesport; a step-daughter, Shari Wyatt and her husband, Greg of McKinney, TX; four step-grandchildren, Philip Lowrey and his wife, Natalie of Columbia, Casey Lowrey and his wife, Jennifer of McKinney, Charlie Bacon and his wife, Savannah of Trenton and Callie Bacon of Trenton; four step-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Blane Vanlandingham of Leawood, KS and Brent Vanlandingham of Merriam, KS; one niece, Ann Janette Griffin of Shawnee, KS; and one cousin, Chip Vanlandingham and his wife, Linda of Ludlow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, B.J. Vanlandingham; and her cat, Tippy.
