The St. Joseph News-Press has released its annual All-News-Press Now winter sports teams and Trenton had three athletes honored.
Maci Moore was a first team selection on the girls basketball team while Mark Trump was the 182-pound wrestler on the boys wrestling team and Libby Fewins was the 166-pound wrestler on the girls wrestling team. The publication only had one wrestling team each for boys and girls.
For Moore, the honor was the latest in a long line of postseason awards that included being named the KMZU Dream Team Class 3 Player of the Year. She was also given unanimous first team All-Grand River Conference honors and was an All-Northwest District pick by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Moore was joined on the first team by Maryville’s Serena Sundell, who was named the area player of the year by the News-Press; St. Joseph Central’s Ella Moody, who was the City Player of the Year; and Lilly Schilling and Gracie Kelsey, both of Class 2 state champion East Buchanan.
Trump became a three-time state qualifier in his senior season and captured a fifth-place state medal to close out his career for the Bulldogs. He was a district runner-up and the 182-pound champion at the Grand River Conference Tournament. Trump finished the season at 41-9 and was 123-73 for his career at Trenton.
Fewins, a senior, missed a trip to state this year, but advanced to the second day of the district tournament. She finished the season with a 20-6 overall record, the 20 wins leading the Bulldogs.
