Fred Duane Dailey, an 84-year-old resident of Columbia, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at a Columbia hospital.
The body was cremated and memorial services and inurnment will be held at a later date. Roberson Funeral Home of Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dailey was born on Nov. 23, 1935 in Lineville, the son of Howard Karl Dailey and Marie Dailey Hass. He was a graduate of Mercer High School. He served in the United States Army, then graduated from and taught at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Columbia.
Mr. Dailey wrote the column, “Hometown Boy,” which appeared in the Trenton Republican-Times, for many years. He was also an avid supporter of the Thompson Farm near Spickard, covering many events there as well as writing about the farm’s accomplishments.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet (Bob) Burke of Lutz, FL and Lucinda Dailey of Ozark; a grandson, Samuel Lawrence; a brother, Elijah (Donna) Dailey of Mercer; a sister, Deanna Schreffler of Chico, CA; and his special friend, Linda Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Frank Schreffler; and a son-in-law, Lyle Harris.
