Roberta Jean Owens Brick

Roberta Jean Owens Brick, a 92-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at NorthCare Hospice House.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Stucker Cemetery.
Mrs. Brick was born in rural Laredo on Oct. 8, 1927, the daughter of Oliver and Katie Lein Owens. She graduated from Laredo High School in 1945 and then attended Northeast Missouri State College. She taught at various one-room schoolhouses for several years and worked at the Laredo Cafe and Wright Memorial Hospital. She lalter obtained a dietitian certification from the University of Florida.
She was married on July 3, 1948 at Trenton to Hugh Gordon “Pete” Brick. They moved in 1971 to Trenton, where she worked as dietitian manager at Wright Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1989. In recent years she delivered Meals on Wheels for the North 65 Senior Center.
She was an excellent cook, an avid sports fan and a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her four children, Roger (Debra) Brick of Chillicothe, Nancy (Larry) Richard of Chariton, IA, Deborah (Kenny) Veach (of Mt. Vernon, and Rex (Kathy) Brick of Overland Park, KS. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren, Betsy Brick, Madeline Manes, Meredith Brick, Lisa Huffstutter, Carrie Goodin, Will Zang, Katie Zang, Jared Brick and Caitlin Hurd as well as her 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years in 1989; her parents; a brother, Charles Owens; and a sister, Frances Owens Gerdom.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grundy County Council on Aging (North 65 Senior Center), the Meals on Wheels program or to Livingston Manor to establish the Roberta Brick Memorial Chapel, which will be an area for residents and family to meet with clergy in a quiet setting.
